Investment strategy

The object of portfolio management is to achieve a sound absolute return. The company's portfolio will be managed according to an active investment strategy with the primary emphasis being on fundamental analysis at company level and at macro level. Principal importance will be given to the following factors in the fundamental analysis:

- Earnings prospects
- Debt servicing capacity
- Cost position
- Competitive position
- Supply and demand in the markets in which the companies operate

Much importance will be attached to the companies exercising good owner control and business management. The history and conduct of the management, the directors and dominant shareholders in regard to treatment of minority shareholders, information and transactions between close associates, will be assessed.

Considerable importance will be given to the longer market trends when implementing the investment strategy. The style of investments may vary over time, depending on valuations and market prospects. At times the portfolio may appear very narrow as part of the investment strategy.
